Black Hawk Down spy plane video of battle footage?
One of Mark Bowden’s main sources for his book Black Hawk Down was the footage shot from a plane above Mogadishu, that was transmitted back to the generals on base. I’m doing a report on how realistically and well written the book is, and would like to do a comparison between one of the passages in the book, the actual footage from the battle, and maybe a clip from the movie. Would this footage be available, or still classified? I know its a long shot, but it would add alot to my project.
the 3 disc special edition has some extra stuff on it. footage from the helicopters sending video to the JOC, is probably available online somewhere, search youtube or flurl, or google ‘battle of mogadishu actual fottage’. the book is very accurate to the film, as the film was based on the book. the film and book are based on accounts from soldiers who survived, even little details are as they happened.
there will be slight differences however, some scenes may have been exaggerated or over dramatised for the film, but it is very accurate. im pretty sure the recordings from the cockpits of super-61 and super-64 during the crashes are available. the film has been highly acclaimed for its accuracy.
rumour has it that the images on the screens behind garrison in hq during the film are actual footage, but dont know how true that is.

in the 3 disc dvd black hawk down they have a doc. and they show a birds eye view of the 2nd crash site being over run. The book is really good compared to the movie, and personally I believe the only reason the second crash site got run over was because Randy Shughart ran out of ammo.
Ps have you tried going on you tube
